Several indie devs have put their games at 100% discount on itch.io in hopes of giving people some things to take their minds off of frightening current events.
Many of us are looking for means of passing the time or taking our minds off of the self-isolation requirements caused by the current pandemic. The constant news cycle of Twitter and Facebook are a lot to deal with right now, and if you’re like me, you’re probably compulsively reopening both programs because you simply don’t know what to do right now.
Thankfully, some extremely kind developers are looking to help. They’ve marked their games down to free or nearly free so that people can grab a few things just to get your head out of this space. There’s some excellent work on offer here, with the wonderful art creation game ART SQOOL allowing you to teach yourself to create lovely pictures (sort of), The Rainsdowne Players having you help out a struggling theater troupe with its demanding audience, Macbat64 letting you give in to your inner Banjo-Kazooie-era collector, and many more.
As for heavily discounted games, you can grab the staggeringly good Zelda-like (but with more broom combat!) Anodyne for $0.90, as well as many, many other games. It’s an incredible showing of generosity from the game development community, and a reminder that we are all in on this together. If there’s something we can do for one another, now’s a good time.
If you want to see what’s all available, do head to this itch.io link. And if you do have some money to spare, maybe consider a donation to these developers who are already giving a lot to help people out.
Thank you to our buddies at PC Gamer for the link!
